Enclosure 1.
128 08650
Hongkong, lat. Juš8; 1915.
The Bon. Capt. Superintendent of Police.
sir,
REGE 20 AUG 15
the undersigned members of the Indian Police, respectfully beg to petition you as follows, and humbly hope that it will ressive your gracious consideration.
1.
Retion allowanceL The ration allowance of one dollar allott-
-ed to each of us dates from the year 1896. At that time a dollar could buy 10 catties of chicken er 25 catties of Indian flour or 5 catties of ghee er 1,200 catties of firewood or 10 catties of
sugar. At present the same amount could purchase only 2 catties of chicken or 11 catties of Indian flour or 1 catty of ghee or 100 catties of fireweed or 6k catties of sugar. We therefore humbly pray that you would see your way to increase our ration allowance after the present war in which our Empire is involved.
2. Pronation.
We also pray that our promotions be placed on
the same footing as those of the European section of the Police Fores. At present when we are promoted to the rank of Lance- -Sergeant or Crom Sergeant, we start with third class, then second
class, and finally first class. We pray that these classes may be
abolished, and that we may be allowed to become first class Lmee- -Sergeants and Crem Sergemts in the same way as the European
members of the Police.
3. Pension.
We respectfully pray that we may be allowed to retire from the service on pension on the completion of 15
years service without the age limit of 45 years.
4. Passage Tickets. We also pray that our passage tickets to In- -dia en fulough be paid beth wage instead of only one way. This double passage grant is extended to themembers of the Hongkong and Singapore Battalion R.G.A
5.
Laste of sbuence. We also pray that our present leave of 6 months on furlough may be increased to 8 months, as we find that
the six months, which include travelling, are too short for us to transact our business in India.
